HIV and nanobacteria

Blood from 40 South African women infected with HIV, and from 13 of their babies, two of whom were infected with HIV, was tested for nanobacteria and antinanobacteria antibodies. Blood from healthy individuals, 38 women and two babies, served as a control. Antibodies against nanobacteria were detected in 85% of the HIVinfected mothers, and in 46% of their babies. Most of the babies had nanobacterial antigens, 54% at high and 15% at low levels, while only 7.5% of the HIV-positive mothers and 5% of the controls had detectable nanobacterial antigens in the blood. Results suggest that nanobacteria are common opportunistic infectious agents in HIVpositive patients, which could be transmitted from HIVpositive mothers to babies.
